Meadowlark Family Farm, Ashland, OR

by Camille Green

I found this one off the National Sustainable Agriculture Information Service website (http://attra.ncat.org).  I was trying to find a summer opportunity in Ashland or close to it, and I came across information about Meadowlark Family Farm.  It is a small family run farm outside of Ashland, and has recently become certified organic.  They have about two to three acres, with an acre and a half for vegetables and an acre for trees and berries.  They sell their harvests at two growers markets in Ashland, and also have a CSA.  The internship starts May 1st (so it looks like I missed out this year), and goes until November 1st.

One of the things that really drew me into this one, is that the description of meals goes as follows: “You are on own your own with what you can harvest from the farm.” There is also a $400 monthly stipend, and the intern stays for free at the farmers house in town (in the guest bedroom which has it’s own outside entrance, fridge, stove, and bathroom).

This defiantly sounds like something I would like to do: it’s small, close to my home, and it looks like I could actually save some money while doing it.

The man who runs the farm also has a blog: http://www.meadowlarkfamilyfarm.blogspot.com/.  You can find this farm on the WWOOF USA site, but they make you register and pay $20 to be able to see his contact information, and the other site does not.
